Staying Strong
Ku Arts has been supporting Ngarrindjeri and Wirangu artist Jackie Saunders to work towards her current solo exhibition Staying Strong.
Opening at The Gallery at St Peters Town Hall this Friday 12 June at 6pm, Staying Strong draws on Jackie’s strong sense of family and culture. Her works reflect her connections to both the human and natural world, exploring different weathers – internal and external – and the shape and movement of land, light and water.
Over the last few months, Ku Arts has supported Jackie Saunders ahead of her solo exhibition by providing her and mentor Laura Wills with access to the Ku Arts Studio inside The Mill. Ku Arts also contributed quality art materials, as well as framing and stretching assistance.
Jackie Saunders is a contemporary Ngarrindjeri and Wirangu artist living on Kaurna land. Jackie describes herself as ‘the daughter of a saltwater woman and a desert dwelling man.’ Jackie’s artworks are often a celebration of resilience, connection and strength. Her paintings represent two cultures coming together through the stories of her parents. Jackie also works out of Tutti Arts.
